SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
I have a SAIGA 12 guage and SAIGA 7.62, I would really like to go to a pistol grip on both of them and some sort of collapsable stock on the rifle. Has anyone actually done this? I found a website, but I am not comfortable drilling away on my rifles. UNLESS it's actually as easy as it appears LOL

Just finished a conversion on a saiga 308. Pretty easy actually. Dremel tool is a good tool to have. Of course if you have drill press and big tools I am sure they would be handy also. I did mine in about 3 hours working on and off.
I have a couple that other people converted and I wanted to try it myself. |
Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
Is the only modification the dimples? Or does the trigger need to be dremeled on?

Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
Mine had the bottom plate with the original ak trigger whole in place.
Drilled thru rivets and welds, removed plate and trigger guard. Use a cutting wheel on the dremel to cut whole for pistol grip nut. Drilled a whole and cut a crew down to reattach trigger guard. That was about it. It took a little while drilling out the rivets and spot welds. If you convert the 7.62x39 I think you have to install a feed ramp. Never done one of these but I own one that has been converted. You need a trigger group, I used a tapco g2 from tromix. Reused my trigger guard. |
Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
I have this ordered right now, does anyone have experience with it?

I don't have any experience with that setup. With the grip so far back I don't know if that will feel right. |
Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
Good point, I hadn't really though of that.

Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
When you get it put on let us know how you like it.

Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
Yea please let me know what you think of it.

Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
I most definitely will. I have a friend with the T6 stock on an SKS and was impressed with the quality. It is the best looking stock for an SKS in my opinion. My order hasn't shipped yet so it may be a week or to before I can report back but I most definitely will and hopefully snap some pics.

Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
www.saiga-12.com is a great place to get step by step instructions for the conversion. I'm still a little intimidated by it for now with a brand new rifle. I want the pistol grip and side folding stock, looks wicked.

Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
One of my Christmas presents from my wife this year was a Tapco kit. I installed it on my Saiga 12 this afternoon. Took about 10 minutes. You have to drill three pilot holes for the three screws that hold the reciever to the stock and the drill bit is included. Feels good and solid. I emptied a mag and it felt good! I'm 6' and I was comfortable with the stock opened three notches. I also like the extra room between the mag release and trigger guard. I see no reason to modify the receiver now that Tapco has made this kit.

Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
I did the pistol grip mod to mine using one of the sets of instructions on www.saiga-12.com as MikeC pointed out, and it is not difficult. I used a drill press, but without any kind of jig...
No need to be intimidated if you are at all crafty. definitely worth it IMO. http://goldismoney.info/forums/pictu...=2&pictureid=2 ETA: also make sure you are in domestic parts compliance, as pointed out in the aforementioned FAQs |

I just got my same stock in today from Mississippi Arms along with a new front tri-rail forearm from them which I threw a nice grip on. Gonna get a light to put on the side rail. Here is a pic of it from Miss Arms sight, will try to get a pic of mine up tomorrow. http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/7958/aaaaaaadh3.jpg Doubt I will put a bipod on it like pictured but you never know. Love my S12. :36_3_12: |

Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
That Tapco kit looks good! I'm trading off my Saiga 12 here in a few hours and that kit makes me not want to! Oh well, I can *hopefully* always pick up another Saiga12 another day.

Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
don't forget to add sufficient american parts to be 922r compliant.

The Saiga is not american made it is russian and therefore requires american parts should you decide to convert it. That checklist is designed for you to un-check those parts that are not american made. |

This way, I'll still have a public "sporter" gun should there be an out and out ban on EBR's. Of course if they completely ban guns with removeable mags... |

This gun is Russian TA. Mine though is compliant with a US mag in it right now, but one part off if using the Russian mag. |
Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
Well here is a pic of the current Saiga 12.
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/4...aasaigazw9.jpg I am really happy with how the forearm looks and feels on it along with the front grip. I am picking up a TLR-1 since I got rid of my TLR-2 for my glock and am gonna see how well it mounts on this. I plan to use it between this and my glock. Also had the hat waiting for me today via the USPS. |
Re: SAIGA Pistol Grip Conversion
Just ordered a Tapco for my Saiga 223...curious to see how well it works.
